Pilates
Pilates, which was developed in the 1920's by Joseph Pilates is a
form of exercise based on improving muscular strength and flexibility
without building bulk. Through a series of precise, controlled movements
and powerful breathing techniques you will not only experience a physical
change but will also experience a mind-body awareness leading you to greater
knowledge of muscular control and function. Pilates is beneficial to all
ages and fitness levels. It is an especially safe form of conditioning
for pregnant women, older adults and is used by physical therapists for
injury prevention and rehabilitation. The goal of Pilates is to create
efficient body movements which will improve power and endurance in many
activities such as cycling, running, swimming and weight training. Used
by many professional athletes, Pilates can give any athlete the winning
edge.
Revolution offers one on one Pilates reformer sessions as well as closely
supervised small group sessions. Pilates mat* classes also offer
a great way to strengthen the abdomen, lower back, glutes, and hamstrings,
as well as condition the body to function in a biomechanically sound way.
Those
who participate in a regular Pilates conditioning program can expect an
improvement in strength, balance and coordination, as well as achieving
the long, lean muscular look desired by so many!
